DESCRIPTION:What does an elephant sound like on the trombone? Can the drums rumble like thunder or echo the rhythm of a busy street? To find out\, join us at Jones Street Festival\, hosted by Greenwich House Pottery—a free\, family-friendly celebration of art\, community\, and creativity right in the heart of the West Village! In Musical Wilderness\, we will explore how composers transform the sounds of nature and everyday life into music. From playful animal melodies to bustling city rhythms\, this lively concert featuring Ric Becker on trombone and vocals\, Paula Winter on percussion\, David Juarez on guitar\, and Dmitry Ishenko on bass invites families to listen closely as instruments chirp\, stomp\, swirl\, and sing. Through joyful performance and interactive moments\, audiences of all ages will discover how music captures the voices of the world around us. \nOther festivities you can find at the block party include: \nClay Olympics—participants vie for the tallest coil pot\, the best pot thrown by foot\, the most skillful teapot made whilst blind-folded\, and so much more! \nWheel throwing demonstrations and hands-on clay activities for children \nPride at the Pottery—an LGBTQIA+ ceramics pop-up sale\, with a portion of proceeds donated to the Stonewall Community Foundation \nCommunity organization tables featuring local nonprofits and neighbors \nArts and education programming from our Pottery and Music Schools and Older Adult Centers \nHandcrafted goods from our Older Adult Network knitting club \nLocal restaurants\, cafés\, and businesses from the surrounding neighborhood \nThis event is free and open to the public. SUMMARY:Juneteenth Jubilee
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a block party in celebration of Juneteenth! \nLittle Mozart Foundation\, Greenwich House\, and Ars Nova are thrilled to present the third annual celebration of Juneteenth\, the day that word of emancipation reached Black enslaved people and ensured the freedom of all Americans. Curated by the creative talents of Mahayla Laurence and David Adewumi\, we will commemorate this with an intergenerational investigation of the struggle toward freedom\, the joy of liberation\, and Black cultural exploration. Festivities are for all ages and will include music\, games\, storytelling\, crafts\, and plenty of fun! \nFeatured artists and vendors include: \nDave Adewumi\, award-winning trumpet player\, will lead his band through a journey of musical celebration and exploration with interactive elements for all ages.  \nBarry Stephenson  is acoustic/electric bassist and composer. Released in 2020\, Barry’s The Iconoclast was nominated for the NAACP Image Award® for Outstanding Jazz Album (Instrumental)\, and was the only independently-produced album in a category \nVanisha Gould curates her own sound as a composer and band leader. Performing originals and music from the Great American Songbook on several groundbreaking stages both in New York and overseas\, she aspires to continue sharing her voice with audiences in New York and beyond. \nTyler Bullock‘s blend of sensitivity and assertiveness has well-positioned him to draw the attention of jazz fans\, new and old. He received national recognition as the jazz piano finalist for the 2022 YoungArts Competition along with a 2021 selection for Carnegie Hall’s National Youth Orchestra  \nKayvon Gordon was born and raised in Detroit. At a young age\, he was taken under the mentorship of legendary trumpeter Marcus Belgrave. He seeks to contribute to the forward thinking aesthetic of his contemporaries while honoring the rich musical legacy of Detroit. \nMarsha’s Closet | Claim Our Space Now: Volunteers from Claim Our Space Now will be hosting a clothing drive and free thrift pop-up. Give what you can\, take what you need! \nJovan Clay | Thorn’s Touch Wellness: Herbalist Jovan Clay will be guiding folks through a medicine making practice. You’ll learn how to make your own herbal vinegar which you can take home with you! \nSam Kebede | Lack History: Sam will perform a condensed version of Lack History\, a comedy-forward educational entertainment project where TED talk meets game show meets charity benefit. There will be fun\, games\, and trivia about Juneteenth for the whole family with real cash prizes that will benefit several curated charitable organizations. \nGreenwich House Pottery will host a table where you can create a table scape of New York City with clay. Create your own park\, street\, building\, or pigeon! \nKisha Jarett | Black Girl in the Woods: Visit Kisha to learn about her journey camping and enter to win a bag of camping gear! \nGreenwich House Music School for crafts\, coloring\, and more!  \n  \n
